The ‘rookpaal’ is the Dutch solution for keeping smokers on the train stations from hindering others by allowing them to smoke in a 1m radius from this pole. Inside is an ashtray, which, due its shape, has the perfect suction of air to light fires. Hence, they are often on fire on the train station, producing smoke with no one around. As an intervention, we re-engineered the rookpaal to become a source of pleasure instead of vexation. Inside the pole, we can smoke food like cheese or beetroots and store some bishop’s wine in the top on colder days. An eyecatcher for preparing small bites at a drink.
